FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - August 25, 2006
URSA, IL - Progressive seed technology is the foundation of success for Lewis Hybrids. The Ursa, Ill., based seed company is celebrating its 60th year in business.
"We are proud to have provided high-quality seed for the last 60 years. Our profit-driven solutions for our customers are based on seed technology success," says Scott Lewis, vice president and third generation with the company. "Since the beginning, our focus for our customers has been on improving yield potential, disease resistance and farm efficiency, and more recently, improving profits through the use of biotechnology and value-added opportunities."
Lewis Hybrids has 20 new corn hybrid seed choices for 2007, including multiple stacked and biotech traits and premium grain opportunities available through Lewis Premium Grains. Lewis offers yellow food grade hard endo corn, high extractable starch and yellow waxy corn, NutriDense and Processor Preferred hybrids. New Lewis 7007 was developed specifically to produce higher yields and grain quality than its predecessor Lewis 6442. Lewis has 11 new soybean varieties, including conventional and Roundup Ready.
"We focus our seed products for our regional market. Seed product development is targeted to specific geography, soils and conditions, and is supported by our extensive regional testing network," says Lewis. "As a result, farmers get high-performing genetics, elite traits and high-quality seed that is proven to work in their area."
Lewis has recently made capital improvements to its facilities to further enhance seed quality for farmers. A new color sorter has been added to the seed conditioning process to raise the bar in providing farmers with the best possible seed.
"Not all seed companies invest in this type of equipment, but we feel the investment shows we are committed for the long term. We want farmers to know we are making significant contributions to their future," says Lewis.
"We have passion and dedication for our business, and believe we have been successful for the last 60 years because our emphasis has always been on helping improve farmer profitability," Lewis continues. "The growth we have experienced in our sales staff is a reflection of our dedication to serving an expanding customer base."
Frank W. Lewis started selling soybean, wheat and oat seed as a sole proprietor in 1946 to help local farmers improve crop yields. Lewis Hybrids, Inc., was incorporated in 1978.
